Review Lil Dicky

Hey what's up everybody, hope you’re all well and a warm welcome back to my arts and entertainment blog. If you guys have been getting my newsletter( if not then sign up using the option form) then you know I have been listening to a lot of new, different music lately thanks to a online classified website I found that I have been getting all kinds of CDs from. I started getting back into rap recently and right now I am boppin to this guy called Lil Dicky, a.k.a Firm Handshake. I remember seeing this guy a couple years online with a hit comedy rap song and he is still staying true to himself and the comedy rap genre but has gotten big recently, making songs with Snoop Dogg and Fetty Wap. Knows as one of the original Youtube rappers Lil Dicky a.k.a Young Dick has now achieved a level of fame he must have dreamed about, and maybe more.

Backstory

Lil Dicky a.k.a Whatever didn’t have the usual rapper upbringing, being born to an upper middle class Jewish family in northern Philadelphia. He went to school at the University of Richmond and ended up graduating Summa Cum Laude from the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business. Lil Dicky a.k.a. Young Professional started his music career simply to build attention to his comedy skills, hoping to land a job as a comedian or comedy actor after working in San Francisco for ad companies. He released his song and the accompanying music video on Youtube in 2013 and thanks to a top Reddit post the video reached 1 million views within its initial 24 hours of release. Following the success of his song, Lil dicky a.k.a Mr. Leftward Sloping Penis released a new song or video once a week for 5 months, ending up with 32 songs and 15 music videos released. AFter this however, Lil Dicky a.k.a Chipotle Aioli (Beef) released a video announcing he had run out of money and asked for his fans help through a kickstarter. This was a successful endeavor and helped to push him through the storm and eventually onto XXL 2016 Freshman list. Lil Dicky a.k.a White Jesus has been recently recorded saying he plans to pursue two careers simultaneously, as a Rapper and also as a writer/actor/comedian which I think is very possible given his recent accomplishments.

First Retail CD Release

Last Summer, Lil Dicky a.k.a The Truffle Fry Guy released his first international retail CD to a great reception. The CD included artist Snoop Dogg, T-Pain, Rich Homie Quan, Fetty Wap, Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco fame, RetroJace and even comedian Hannibal Buress. Personally I think this CD is amazing, and the music videos that have been released with it are equally amazing. Professional Rapper was released June 21st, 2015 and debuted #7 on the US billboard charts, which is really good for an independently released album.  The singles from this album ( Lemme Freak, White Crime, $ave that Money, and Professional Rapper) were all released to great reception, and $ave that Money even had an article written about it in the NY Times as the whole video was shot for free using other rappers music videos and relying on people's hospitality to let him use their mansions/yachts/sports cars. The video turned out amazingly, and for the accompanying article Lil Dicky a.k.a. The Independent Variable was even able to get some free food and other things in New York City. You can support him buy buying his album here https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/lil-dicky/id667590649 .

Lil Dicky a.k.a. Slim Boner has an interesting way of blending comedy with the relatable everyday scenario. He doesn’t really perpetuate the idea of being better than others and even puts himself down on a regular occasion. Regarding his content, Lil Dicky a.k.a. The Time Traveller’s Wife draws from everyday situations and then builds on them to produce a video to creative a visual narrative that is beneficial to his work as an MC. Like an old school comedian with a slide show. He tries to keep everyday concepts the main point for his videos, although sometimes he gets a little off topic like when he had a rap battle against Hitler. This was however done extremely well and with footage from a aNazi rally, which he got away with because he is Jewish. f  Lil Dicky a.k.a Cheese Dick is also getting more involved in the writing game for television and film, so hopefully we will see some hidden messages from him in films in the near future. That’s all for me, see you guys next week.
